Homes 'to have winter insurance protection'

Property owners across the UK and in Scotland in particular have been urged to rest assured their home insurance policies will cover them against damage from bad weather this winter.

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has claimed insurance providers across the country will be on standby to help individuals who suffer damage to their property over the coming months, with heavy rainfall in Scotland already leading to flooding in some areas.

"Events like this are exactly why people take out insurance. Insurers plan for bad weather, and will have arrangements in place to minimise distress and inconvenience and help people recover as quickly as possible," commented Nick Starling, the ABI's director of general insurance.

Catherine Haken, managing director and owner of Haken Relocation Services, recently argued those looking to downsize their home over the coming months should take the process slowly in order to ensure they are comfortable with their decision.
