Prudential finds close link between money and relationships

Research conducted by Prudential has found that money is a key factor in relationships, with many placing a significant level of importance on money when choosing a partner.

Only 16 per cent of those surveyed believed that money was not at all important in relationships, while one in four adults know someone who is actually in a relationship because of their partner's money.

Meanwhile 37 per cent believe money is quite important in a relationship and 27 per cent believe it is very important.

The average most expensive date on just one occasion to impress the opposite sex is £315, with one in ten people spending over £800 on a romantic get together.

Angus Maciver, director of brand and insight at Prudential, said: "I'm not sure if the importance we place on money in relationships relates to us being shallow - for most it's probably more about being practical.

"Being financially secure, whilst not everything, certainly makes life and in many cases our personal relationships a lot easier."

"Having a financial plan, budgeting and saving more is important for each of us, which is why we developed the Plan from the Prudential planning guides."
