Car insurance 'is critical for motorists'

There is no excuse for UK vehicle owners not to have car insurance as it is a critical expense, a sector expert has stated.

Steve Chilton, Swinton Group claims manager, said young people in particular need to be aware of the necessity of having an up-to-date car insurance policy, as failing to do so is not only against the law but puts them in a position whereby if they were to have an accident they would have to foot the bill themselves.

However, many people continue to drive cars that are not covered.

He commented: "I think the reason for that is that they are unaware of the type of cover that is in existence. Also the implications of driving without insurance may not have been fully explained to them."

According to Swinton's findings, 94.73 per cent of people believe high insurance costs are having a negative impact on their social lives.

Furthermore, 27.1 per cent admitted to driving their parents' car with no insurance or know someone who does.
