Simplification of motor insurance supported by the AA

Motoring organisation the AA has offered its support to the announcement by the Department for Transport that both paper and electronic motor insurance certification is to be abolished in a bid to reduce red tape.

Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, noted the requirement of a certificate for the individual was an unnecessary step in the cover process, as the national Motor Insurance Database contains all insurance details for vehicles.

"An insurance certificate is simply paper evidence that a vehicle is insured and, in practice, it's rarely needed," Mr Douglas commented. "Abolishing paper or electronic certificate will cut administration costs and red tape for drivers and businesses."

Steve Chilton, Swinton Group claims manager, also recently noted that car insurance is one of the most important expenditures for any car owner, as it is both a legal requirement and ensures that in the event of an accident a person will be covered.
