Older individuals have been advised to ensure they are receiving all of the benefits they are entitled to in the present difficult financial climate.

Annie Shaw, founder of CashQuestions.com, said older people who have worked all their lives and paid into the system for years should ensure they get all they are entitled to from the state, with individuals advised to seek professional help if they are not sure that this is the case at present.

"Make sure they are getting the most out of things, like their savings ... They should also be careful that they aren't taking risks that they aren't happy with," she noted.

Ms Shaw also recently commented that older people across the UK are typically having a harder time with their finances then their younger counterparts in the present financial climate.

She claimed inflation on things like domestic fuel and food have hit this group harder than anyone, as they tend to spend a higher proportion of their income on these outgoings.
