Falling inflation 'could help Brits save'

Falling levels of inflation could help people across the UK to begin saving more, it has been claimed.

According to Kevin Mountford, head of banking at MoneySupermarket.com, a recent poll by the company revealed that up to one-fifth of Brits will take the opportunity offered by falling inflation to put more money aside for the future.

Inflation fell for the fourth month in a row this month to stand at 3.6 per cent, with Mr Mountford noting that fixed-rate bonds are proving increasingly attractive investment options in delivering significant returns for those who have cash to spare.

He commented: "The continuing fall in inflation is great news for hard-pressed savers and this should really help encourage people to start saving again."

Mr Mountford's comments follow the publication of research carried out by Nationwide, which showed 95 per cent of workers under the age of 35 are not presently saving towards their retirement.
