Brits facing finance difficulties 'should talk to their bank'

Individuals across the UK who are facing ongoing financial problems have been urged to contact their bank, as this should be their first port of call to try and tackle any problems.

Heather Roebuck, sales and service manager at first direct, said the worst thing people can do when they are facing financial difficulties is to ignore the issue.

Instead, they should be proactive and seek professional advice to deal with the matter.

She commented: "Banks are there to help and I know that some people raise an eyebrow at that, but they are and the last thing we want to do is for customers not to talk to us if they are having any difficulties."

According to research recently carried out by Halifax, it takes 17 days on average for Brits to start feeling the pinch after they get paid each month, with more than half claiming that by the last week before their next payday they worry they will run out of money for essentials.
