Bradford & Bingley FirstSave account launched

Bradford & Bingley has launched an account aimed especially at children under the age of 12.

The FirstSave account offers a rate of 4.5 per cent plus a bonus of 0.5 per cent if there are less than four withdrawals made a year.

Bradford & Bingley's FirstSave account also gives every child a free Penguin book when they open an account and a further book for the anniversary of every year when they make les than four withdrawals.

Parents can make electronic payments and set up standing orders to be paid into the account.

Steve Potter, head of savings at Bradford & Bingley, said: "We think the competitive rate plus an attractive bonus will provide youngsters with the incentive to take out the accounts and save for their future."
