Post Office Home Insurance says many Britons wish for silence

Nearly half of all Britons have been upset by their neighbour's loud music, a Post Office Home Insurance survey has found.

The survey found that 42 per cent had yearned for the sound of silence after suffering from neighbours' stereos played on full volume.

Nine out of ten had been annoyed by next-door noise at some point, though 54 per cent of us are actually happy about our neighbours nevertheless.

Phil Ashkuri, head of Post Office Home Insurance, said that: "The best way to avoid upsetting your neighbours is to resist turning up the volume too late at night."

As well as loud stereos, respondents mentioned heated arguments, crying babies, lawnmowers and blaring televisions as sources of noise.
