Saga Motor Insurance lists worst roundabouts

The Magic Roundabout has been voted the worst roundabout in Britain, Saga Motor Insurance said today.

A new survey by the company shows that the cluster of five mini-roundabouts on Swindon's A4312 often causes drivers to head off in the wrong direction.

Other infamous roundabouts to figure in the survey include the Plough in Hemel Hempstead and the Pork Pie in Leicester, one of the city's worst accident spots.

Meanwhile, the tree-shaped traffic light sculpture at London's Canary Wharf vas voted the best-looking in the UK.

Andrew Goodsell, chief executive at Saga Motor Insurance, said: "It is interesting that the favourites appear to have been chosen for their aesthetic quality rather than ease of navigation, while the worst have been selected for the opposite reasons."

He added that women seemed to have the right attitude at roundabouts since their "cautious approach" seemed to result in fewer accidents.
