Alliance & Leicester Personal Loans suggests debt cuts

Over half of all Brits want to review their finances in 2006, according to new research from Alliance & Leicester Personal Loans.

Around a quarter aim to stick to a budget in the new year and almost one in five want to stop paying for unnecessary items, the survey found.

However, only seven per cent have thought of saving on debt by consolidating it into a low-rate loan, the bank said.

Claire Alvey, Alliance & Leicester Personal Loans manager, said: "It is understandable that people want to try to improve the way they manage their debt and even reduce it as we enter the new year."

"This does not just mean spending less, but being savvy about the interest you pay back on your debts," she added.

Consumers who owe £8,000 on credit cards could save £1,400 by consolidation their debt, according to Alliance & Leicester.
