Direct Line Travel Insurance: Show-off skiers dangerous

Direct Line Travel Insurance has found that ten per cent of Britons' accidents while skiing happen as a result of sheer bravado, boastfulness or peer pressure.

Seven per cent of ski bunnies said they would show off to impress someone while 38 per cent of those questioned said they simply did not want to be left behind and so skied out of their comfort zone.

Chris Price, head of Direct Line Travel Insurance, said: "It's important not to take unnecessary risks, though, whether by tackling runs that are too difficult for you or not preparing yourself physically in advance."

One way skiers can lessen the risk of injury is to exercise ahead of their holiday by improving muscular strength and endurance as well as flexibility.

And advanced skiers should not consider themselves immune, as Direct Line Travel Insurance showed that they are more likely than beginners to find themselves on slopes that they are unable to cope with.

All those going on a snow holiday this season are advised to ensure they have adequate travel insurance to avoid financial loss due to injuries or other incidents.
