Saisnbury’s Bank warns of winter car crime

Motorists across the UK are being urged to think twice about leaving cars running unsupervised with keys in the ignition.

In the cold winter months many car owners leave the engine and car to warm up before driving off – but this could have unwanted consequences as thieves become wise to the idea.

Sainsbury's Bank estimates that over 24,000 people across the UK fall victim to such a crime every year.

Richard Clark, Sainsbury's car insurance manager, said: "We are concerned that the predicted extreme cold weather will result in more people taking the risk and becoming victims of 'frosting'."

Furthermore, Sainsbury's Bank is urging motorists to ensure their car is in a fit state to be driven in cold conditions to prevent breakdowns and accidents.
