Sainsbury's Bank Fixed-Rate Saver account launched

The Sainsbury's Bank Fixed-Rate Saver account has been introduced to the public with a gross return rate of 5.05 per cent.

Customers are being offered the deal for a limited time until stocks run out – the bank can only accept a certain level of investment and when this limit is reached new accounts will be taken off the market.

Sainsbury's claims this package currently offers the highest return rate available and is expecting "strong demand".

According to the bank's analysis of recent research by financial website Moneyfacts, only three other savings bonds have a return rate of five per cent or over and the average rate is 4.56 per cent.

Sainsbury's Bank savings manager Pauline White said: "We believe that a guaranteed return of 5.05 per cent is a very attractive rate and a good way in which to boost your savings without taking any risk."

Investors in the Sainsbury's Bank Fixed-Rate Saver scheme can invest between £3,000 and £1 million and will receive their interest upon the bond's maturity on February 13th 2007.
