Norwich Union Travel Insurance research revealed

The cost of cover for injuries sustained on sporting holidays differs greatly depending on your location, a report from Norwich Union Travel Insurance suggests today.

Norwich Union's research focused on the cost of a broken leg suffered while skiing, as this is reportedly the most common injury to occur on the slopes.

America is the most costly place for uninsured travellers to incur an injury, as medical care for a leg fracture costs £20,000 here.

In Canada the injury will bring a medical bill of £13,000, while European countries are cheaper at levels of £6,000 and £4,000 in Switzerland and Italy respectively.

"With all eyes on the Turin Winter Olympics, there's an increased interest in winter sports and people should remember to take out travel insurance with winter sports optional cover before hitting the slopes," Dawn McMullan of Norwich Union advised.

Norwich Union Travel Insurance gives examples of its premiums covering European travel, which ranges in price from £42.82 to £58.35 per year.
