HSBC BusinessDirect online banking free for SMEs

Telephone banking will also be free for SMEs as the bank said: "If you don't use a branch, why pay for it?"
The offer is based on the belief that 1.7 million SMEs across the UK do not conduct their transactions with cash or cheques and prefer to use the telephone and internet for their banking needs.
Advisers will be available online and the bank will be contactable by telephone at any time, HSBC claimed, to ensure that its BusinessDirect customers did not fall out of regular contact with their account managers.
It was also asserted that SME customers would be welcome in branches should they wish to discuss the development of their company with the bank.
Head of commercial banking at HSBC Alan Keir claimed that attempting to apply a single method of banking to all customers "does not reflect the reality of modern Britain".
"Millions of business owners run their companies online or on the phone – they don't need us to handle cash and they rarely write or take cheques," he explained.
According to the company, 51 per cent of its business customers already regularly attend to their accounts over the internet.
HSBC BusinessDirect online banking will see its full launch in April.
