Legal & General Health Cash Plan recommended for new sportspeople

It has been suggested today that a product such as the Legal & General Health Cash Plan could offer peace of mind to people planning on taking up a new sport or beginning exercise.

A study by the insurer into sports and fitness has revealed that over 50 per cent of people surveyed believed that they did not do enough exercise, although it also warned that those who do work on their fitness could put pressure on joints and muscles.

This could lead to injuries such as shin splints and runner's knee, which could in turn have long-term implications such as the need for a hip replacement or knee surgery.

The company recommended that people planning on taking up a new sport check the cover that they have been provided with by their insurer.

"Regular exercise, such as running, is an excellent way to improve fitness and general well being but individuals should always take a few sensible precautions to help avoid serious injury," said Tessa Webster, customer service director for Legal & General healthcare.

The Legal & General Health Cash Plan starts from £5.95 a month and provides cash sums towards everyday healthcare costs, also including dental and optical fees.
