KLM reports dip in passenger traffic

AMSTERDAM, NE - KLM has reported a dip in its passenger traffic during January, ahead of an upcoming merger with Air France.

Data indicates that passenger numbers fell by a total three per cent during the month, compared to figures for December.

However, the overall load figure increase 2.3 per cent in January, fuelled partly by capacity cuts on KLM's North Atlantic routes.

Middle Eastern and South Asian routes saw a five per cent traffic growth, although last year's Iraq invasion would have been a factor on these routes. European routes showed static load factors with a slight fall in passenger numbers.

If successful, the merger with Air France will create one of the largest airlines in the world.
