Olympics experts to tackle potential hacker threat

ATHENS, GR - Security experts for the Athens Olympics are reportedly working on methods of countering a possible hacker attack.

Greek Newspaper, Nea Daily, claims that electronic security officials were alerted by a message in a US computer magazine asking hackers if they had found a way to interfere during this year's Olympics.

Electronics experts are now working to protect key infrastructure, such as electronic scoreboards, traffic lights, utilities and air traffic networks, from interference during the Games in August

A police source told Nea Daily: "Theoretically, there are opportunities for them to act. We need to be alert and cooperate with other countries and with the specialist electronic crime unit".

Greece is spending a record E650 million euros (£444 million pounds) on security for the Athens Olympics. Yesterday Greece staged one of the biggest anti-terrorist exercises ever held in Europe to test the ability of the capital's emergency services to cope with a terrorist attack.
