Head of Abbey Loans asks "why DIY when you can GSI"

Head of Abbey Loans, Jeff Scott, has responded to research by Abbey by suggesting it may prove more costly to 'do it yourself' (DIY) than to 'get someone in' (GSI).

Spring bank holidays are usually a time for DIY enthusiast to start a new project, but the research from Abbey Loans shows that such projects can prove to be more time consuming and more expensive than first imagined.

According to the research a typical DIY project, such as fitting a bathroom, can take close to a year and a half from start to finish and the cost of DIY equipment over such a period of time can prove very costly.

Mr Scott said: "Overwhelmingly the perception of GSI is that it costs significantly more than doing it yourself. However, our research shows that this is not necessarily the case."

The Abbey Loans research comes as reports today reveal a relative slump in profits for the owners of a number of major high street DIY retailers in the past year.
