Churchill Home Insurance: Brits get on their bike

More than 13 million Brits have bought themselves a new bike in the last 12 months, according to a survey by Churchill Home Insurance.

The research by Churchill Home Insurance revealed that £3.78 billion has been spent on bicycles in the last year as Brits try to get fit by getting on their bike.

Of those questioned, 42 per cent said they used their bikes more than they did five years ago and the increase in bike sales explains the £743 million that was spent on specialist cycling clothing in the same period.

Martin Scott, head of Churchill Home Insurance, said: "Cycling is becoming increasingly popular among adults, with some people using their bike everyday. For many, it is simply a great way to relax and get fit and for others, it is also becoming an alternative means to commute."

Churchill Home Insurance is currently offering a ten per cent discount when customers take up a policy online.
