Nestle acquires dieting company

As many as three out of four of Britain's drivers admit to having potentially dangerous driving habits, according to new research from Sainsbury's Car Insurance.

Driving when tired is the most common dangerous habit with 38 per cent of those questioned by Sainsbury's Car Insurance saying they had done so in the last month.

Drivers also admitted to driving in flip flops or bare footed and 706,000 drivers said they had applied make-up while behind the wheel.

An estimated 198,980 accidents occurred on UK roads in 2005 and the figures show at around 22 million people engaged in dangerous driving of some sort in the last month.

Richard Clark, manager of Sainsbury's Car Insurance, said: "Motorists should think carefully about their driving habits as many may not have considered the dangers. Driving after drinking just one alcoholic drink for example."

Sainsbury's Car Insurance is part of a range of insurance products on offer from Sainsbury's Bank which also includes home, pet and travel insurance.
