Prudential Car Insurance: Three quarters of Brits have broken down

Almost 75 per cent of drivers in the UK have broken down in their car, according to research by Prudential Car Insurance.

As much as 61 per cent of people surveyed revealed that they had to wait by the side of the road for an hour before breakdown assistance arrived.

Despite these latest findings at least one fifth of those questioned do not have any sort of breakdown cover.

A quarter of people were found to have broken down between three and five times and four per cent were unlucky enough to have broken down over ten times.

Phil Southgate, media relations manager, Prudential Car Insurance said: "Unfortunately our research findings prove that a vast majority of British motorists will not only break down but many will also spend a considerable amount of time waiting for the recovery truck."

Prudential has over 1.4 million insurance policies underwritten of which over a quarter of a million are car insurance policies.
