Tesco Home Insurance: Hot weather is good news for burglars

he warm weather this summer has resulted in four out of five homeowners being far less concerned about their home security, Tesco Home Insurance has revealed.

A survey by the insurance provider has found that although 50 per cent of people are aware of the added risks, they are not taking steps to protect themselves against the actions of opportunistic burglars.

Of those surveyed, 30 per cent admitted they left their upstairs windows open during the day in an effort to keep cool, while 20 per cent said they had left their patio doors unlocked all day and two per cent even left their front doors open throughout the night.

Allan Burns, head of Tesco Home Insurance, said: "It's understandable that people want to keep their homes as cool as possible during this heatwave.

"However, it's important to remember that burglars aren't any less opportunistic during the summer months than at any other time of the year."

Tesco are current having a summer sale on home insurance, when until August 6th customers can get a policy for half price when they buy online.
