Consumers rely on friendly financial advice, Alliance & Leicester Current Account research finds

Almost a quarter of Britons would take their friends' advice on financial matters, according to Alliance & Leicester Current Account research.

Seeking friends' advice on things like mortgages, credit cards or personal loans was found to be more common among men than among women, while 28 per cent of men said they would listen to their friends' advice, compared to only nine per cent of women.

It was also established that advice is more often heeded when it comes to financial matters, when compared to fashion or interior design issues.

Helen Palmer, current accounts manager at Alliance & Leicester, said: "Good news travels fast and there is no better endorsement than that of a friend.

"Our recommend a friend scheme encourages people to spread the word that shopping around for the most competitive current account is a worthwhile process."

Alliance & Leicester offers current and savings accounts, as well as secured and personal loans.
