Lloyds TSB: Scottish house prices still rising

The Scottish housing price boom is over but prices across the country are still rising, according to the latest Lloyds TSB House Price Monitor.

Figures show that in the three months to July 31st, the quarterly price index for the average domestic property in Scotland rose by 1.1 per cent.

This gave an average mix adjusted Scottish house price of £141,338, meaning that average house prices in the country have now risen for 66 consecutive months.

The largest annual rises were recorded in Dundee and Aberdeen at 17 per cent, which is attributable to price rises earlier in the year.

Edinburgh still shows the highest average house price at £186,648 and in terms of property type, the average price for a detached house in Scotland stands at £213,093.

Consumers can get a semi-detached property in Scotland for £142,552, a terrace for £117,876 and a flat for £112,238.

Professor Donald MacRae, chief economist at Lloyds TSB Scotland, said: "The main driver of the housing market in Scotland remains changes in the population.

"The total number of households in Scotland is projected to grow by 11 per cent up to the year 2024."
