Norwich Union: Neighbours provide insurance security

Norwich Union Insurance has raised concerns that many Brits are failing to get to know their neighbours despite the numerous benefits associated with having a good neighbour.

The study by Norwich Union discovered that 64 per cent of Brits think people are becoming less neighbourly. Over 12 per cent admitted to going over a month without speaking to their neighbour, whilst a third admitted they have never said even hello to their fellow resident.

However, such loss of neighbourhood spirit could have potential consequences especially as friendly and vigilant neighbours can help to reduce burglary risks and discourage anti-social behaviour.

Paul Redington, claims manager from Norwich Union Insurance explained: "It’s clear that developing strong neighbour relations allows us to build a picture of people’s lives, their families and comings and goings."

He added: "A good neighbour can provide valuable advice about the community you live in, a watchful eye to help prevent the risk of crime and together you can make your environment a more peaceful and friendly place to live."
