Liverpool Victoria warns storms are coming

Don’t let the warm weather fool you, severe storms could be just around the corner, a leading insurer has warned

With British weather becoming more erratic, high tides, flooding and storms are predicted in certain areas due to climate change.

Liverpool Victoria, the UK’s largest friendly society, advises that people living in areas susceptible to flooding, should take particular precautions to ensure that their property remains dry and safe.

Nigel Snell, Liverpool Victoria’s corporate communications director, said: "We all know how climate change is affecting the weather, but off the back of a long, dry summer, we’d urge people not to take the weather for granted."

The organisation recommends that people use common sense during wild weather and to ensure that their most valuable and priceless possessions remain out of harm's way.

A simple safety measure such as storing as much furniture and important belongings on the second floor of the house is assured way of protecting them from water damage.

The society also reminds people to keep their cars as safe as possible and to not drive through any flood water as it may appear deeper than it seems.

The insurer also warns that the framework of homes can be damaged during relentless downpours.
