Innovative Mint text message payment service launched

Credit card company Mint has launched a new high-tech payment system to help customers keep up-to-date with their account.

The new Mint text message payment service will enable customers to check their balances, review transactions and make payments to their bill via their mobile phone.

Customers will receive a text alert when their monthly credit card statement is issued and will be able to reply using text to ensure they make at least the minimum repayment.

Security on the Mint text message payment service will be ensured because the cardholder will register their debit card and mobile phone details as well as a security code word. Any texts sent from Mint will contain the code word and no account numbers will be revealed.

It is hoped that the service will ensure that customers do not miss making sufficient payments to their account and therefore avoid the additional cost of late or missed payment charges.

Jerry Toher, managing director of Mint, said: "Given the fast pace of modern life it seemed important for Mint to find a clever way for people’s money to work around them rather than the other way round."

He added: "By enabling people to simply send a text to get their balance and make a payment at any time of the day, our customers can manage their money easily, just like they would if they were arranging a night out with friends."
