MasterCard SmartData OnLine milestone reached

One million transactions are now taking place per month by European companies using MasterCard SmartData OnLine.

Back in 2004, the figure of monthly transactions stood at 109,000 for the MasterCard SmartData OnLine used by a total of 3,000 companies.

The number of user companies has risen sharply to the current total of 17,000 and the internet-based reporting application is championed by 20 banks from around Europe.

MasterCard SmartData OnLine was launched in 1999 as a business tool that manages companies' financial data from MasterCard services.

Head of consumer and commercial products at MasterCard Europe Jorn Lambert has expressed his delight at the news, declaring that the "rapid growth of transactions is a reflection of the confidence of our issuers in this tool".

"As a reporting tool, SDOL [SmartData OnLine] can provide business managers with the information they need to help them identify opportunities to reduce costs and improve business planning and forecasting," he continued.

MasterCard's website asserts that: "SmartData OnLine reporting is designed to meet your company's specific needs." It can be used to flag up possible cost reductions as it logs individual card transactions.
