Motorists - beware of clock change says Lloyds TSB

Britain's motorists have been warned to have their wits about them when taking to the road between 15:00 GMT and 18:00 GMT this Sunday.

Due to the clocks going back, Lloyds TSB has issued a warning that car accidents could rise on Sunday between the above aforementioned times as the nights get darker.

Lloyds TSB has predicted that car accident claims will jump by 20 per cent now that dark nights have hit the UK. Experience from last year shows that claims rose by 18 per cent, according to the bank and this figure is again expected at least.

Phil Loney, managing director at Lloyds TSB Insurance stated: "The colder weather combined with the darker nights can be a lethal cocktail on the roads. Even though the clocks go back every year, drivers still seem to be ill prepared."

Mr Loney continued by stating that drivers should prepare themselves for the onset of darker nights and harsh weather conditions, a combination that could prove dangerous for many drivers.

Lloyds TSB car insurance offers customers a no claims bonus of up to 65 per cent should motorists not claim within five years.
