Barclays Blue debit card is really green

The environmentally-friendly Barclays Blue debit card has been launched by the bank and is being sent to millions of customers whose old card has expired.

A total of 11 million people currently have Barclays debit cards and the new card being sent out to them has been produced by card manufacturer Axalto to reduce the level of carbon emissions releases during the manufacturing of the card.

Axalto worked alongside the Carbon Neutral Company in order to produce the carbon neutral Barclays Blue debit card.

Barclays head of debit cards Brian Cunnington stated: "We are pleased to be able to offer this brand new carbon neutral debit card. It is good news for people who want a greener form of banking and its distinctive blue edge makes it easy to spot in your wallet or purse."

Barclays has stated that it has a commitment to finding green solutions and it currently takes its place among the top 50 companies from the Global FT500 in terms of addressing the issues relating to climate change, says the Climate Leadership Index.
