Halifax Travel Insurance urges Christmas travellers to get cover

It seems that Brits are shunning the possibility of witnessing a white Christmas by escaping the UK in record numbers this yuletide and with millions of pounds worth of presents, the onus should rest on gaining adequate insurance, says Halifax Travel Insurance.

Research has shown that 2.5 million Britons will leave the UK and with them they will have presents that amount to £727 million.

Insuring these items must become a priority, according to Halifax Travel Insurance, as research discovered that insurance claims for personal baggage increases by some 48 per cent in the aftermath of Christmas – a rise from the monthly average of £560 to £830.

Vicky Watson at Halifax Travel Insurance said: "Britons no longer feel compelled to spend Christmas in the traditional fashion. More and more people want to use the time off work as another opportunity to indulge their passion for travel.

"However it's good to know that while the scenery of a traditional Christmas may be changing, the desire to celebrate with friends and family remains strong."

Halifax Travel Insurance is available at a ten per cent discount if purchased online and an individual annual travel insurance policy can be bought from £30.
