AXA reports business crime increase

Incidents of business crime during the third quarter of this year were up 15 per cent on the second quarter, states the AXA Business Crime Index.

Birmingham was found to have the highest business crime rate, according to the index, with 24.42 per cent of claims in the city relating to crime.

Arson accounts for the highest payouts and the average claim settlement was found to be £3,524. As a result of the research, AXA has urged businesses to remain vigilant throughout the festive period.

Neil Mercier, property insurance manager at AXA, remarked: "We are concerned by the findings from this index, as criminal activity towards businesses continues to rise.

"It is particularly troubling as our experience since the index was first launched reveals business crime generally increases in the fourth quarter of the year, which will make worrying reading for UK businesses this festive season."

AXA offers a range of insurance products for businesses including Venture Plus, Van Insurance and Working From Home, among others.
