Lloyds TSB warns of Xmas fire threat

The biggest threat to the perfect family Christmas will be domestic fires, according to Lloyds TSB Insurance, as candles and faulty fairy lights could potentially cause misery this festive season.

Research carried out by Lloyds TSB Insurance shows that some people are increasing the likelihood of causing serious damage through fire by not regularly testing fire alarms (16 per cent), while one in five said that they leave the cooker on while out of the house.

As a result of the increased risk over Christmas, the insurer has predicted a 70 per cent rise in the number of claims arising from fire.

Phil Loney, managing director of Lloyds TSB Insurance, said: "If there's one clear and present danger this Christmas, it is fire. Come the 25th of December it seems that most of us forget the basics of home safety and in doing so we're putting ourselves in real danger."

Lloyds TSB allows people to get a quote online by following the instructions on its website. It also enables its customers to access a jargon buster tool that aims to make complicated terms as simple as possible.
