Direct Line home insurance warning

Homeowners are being advised to make sure they are ready for the forthcoming festive season and are covered against any potential problems.

Research by Direct Line home insurance has discovered that many people will spend Christmas coping rather than pay out for tradesmen to fix their domestic problems.

One in ten homeowners admitted they have been without hot water or heating during the festive season because they feared the high price of tradesmen, while a further nine per cent admitted they were unable to find a tradesperson willing to come out and solve the problem because of the national holiday period.

Adverse weather conditions means that having a valid cover such as a Direct Line home insurance policy can prove vital in ensuring a stress-free Christmas and a low-cost New Year. Therefore, planning ahead can help to solve some potential disasters.

Andrew Lowe, head of Direct Line's home response 24 insurance, explained: "There is no way that people can predict when they will be faced with a home emergency that needs to be dealt with quickly and professionally."

"To avoid the risk of a freezing festive period, we would recommend that people have their book of trade contacts to hand or consider one of a number of services that have engineers on hand 24 hours a day, 365 days a year," he added.
