HSBC Green Sale to benefit charities

Environmental charities are set to benefit from the first ever HSBC Green Sale.

In a new twist on the bank's annual sale, environmental charities will receive a contribution from HSBC for every product sold in the sale.

The Climate Group, Botanic Gardens Conservation International, Earthwatch Institute and ENCAMS, which runs the Keep Britain Tidy campaign, will all receive cash as a result of the HSBC Green Sale.

It is hoped that from the £2 contributed by the bank for every on-sale product sold, over £1 million will be distributed among the four charities.

The bank has also pledged to donate 50p for every customer who signs up for HSBC online banking.

Products on offer in the HSBC Green Sale include zero per cent balance transfer credit card deals and half-price offers on current accounts.

Special mortgage deals, insurance discounts and exclusive online products are all available in the HSBC Green Sale.

Mike Oliver, the manager of the HSBC Green Sale, said there is "something for almost everyone shopping for finances in the new year".

He added that the bank is "very excited" about raising funds for charities through the HSBC Green Sale.

"The 2007 January Sale will help some very important environmental charities, but we will also use this opportunity to raise awareness of environmental issues among our staff and customers," Mr Oliver added.

A recent survey by Friends Provident found that Britons are increasingly choosing ethical and socially responsible investments.

The life and pensions provider said three quarters of Brits want their money invested in ethically sound funds - an increase of ten per cent on last year's figures.
