House price rises £75 a day in London

London was again found to pave the way in terms of house price growth with an average daily increase of £75 during last year, Nationwide Building Society reports.

This figure is much larger than the £45 daily rise discovered across the rest of the UK, a 9.3 per cent rise for the year. London property prices increased by 11.3 per cent in 2006.

A house in the English capital costs an average of £269,327, according to the Nationwide Quarterly House Price Review, whereas the UK's average stands at £172,065.

Fionnuala Earley, Nationwide's group economist, said: "The price of houses in London continues to dwarf those in other parts of the country.

"The typical house in London costs more than one and a half times higher than the average price in the UK."

The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors has predicted that during 2007, house prices in the UK will increase by a further seven per cent, "supported by continued strength of the economy".
