Quarter of an hour to sort out finances

A third of people in the UK are not paying enough attention to their financial situation, yet the insurance firm Axa claims that just 15 minutes a week can be beneficial.

It has been found through research by Axa that around 12.4 million Britons are currently declining when it comes to keeping on top of personal finances but the insurer has suggested an hour month could save people as much as £6,000.

Furthermore, the average adult in the UK managed to put away £1,003 last year and 61 per cent had saved either no money or less than £500, highlighting the size of the problem.

Steve Folkard of Axa remarked: "There is a direct correlation between the amount of time people spend on their finances and how much they save. Our research shows that it's not until people start to spend around an hour a month on planning and reviewing their money issues that they really see their savings pot grow."

Receiving support and information from an adviser can also be a help according to Saran Allott-Davey who runs Heron House Financial Management and worked alongside Axa during its research.
