Storm update released by Halifax Home Insurance

Halifax Home Insurance has issued a storm update highlighting the extent of the storms currently lashing most of the UK.

A rise of 120 per cent was reported compared with the usual amount of calls received by the company which equates to 10,500 phone calls being made between 08:00 and 22:00 GMT on January 18th.

Storm damage is expected to be extensive with gusts of up to 99 mph reported in some parts of Britain. The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has not yet revealed its predictions for the cost of the damage.

Homeowners have been urged by Halifax Home Insurance to ensure that all objects are secured both inside and outside their property.

Roofs should be checked to see if any tiles are loose and need securing and Halifax Home Insurance recommends that people occupy themselves with ensuring they know how to turn off electricity, gas and water in preparation for a storm.

The Environment Agency states on its website that around five million people in the UK are at risk of flooding and should therefore make sure they know how to protect themselves and their property against such an occurrence.
