Mums becoming entrepreuners, says Tesco Business Credit Card

The prospect of embarking upon a new business venture is proving to be an offshoot of becoming a new mother, Tesco Business Credit Card has said.

New research discovered that mothers are deciding to launch themselves into a new business after giving birth, seeing the time spent at home as an opportunity to make money.

A major factor influencing new mothers to go into business is the ability to gain a good work-life balance, according to Tesco Business Credit Card. Men, on the other hand, said they become self-employed as a means to earn money, primarily.

Sue Hayward, presenter of Sky TV's Women in the Property Market, said: "For many women, the late-night cries of a newborn baby awakens an entrepreneurial spirit. We're seeing a wide array of new businesses emerging, quite literally, from the nursery, into the open market."

Monica McCormack, spokesperson for Tesco Business Credit Card, stated that new mothers may be having a greater impact on the British economy "than anyone previously imagined".

Females were also found to start up being self-employed at a younger age than males, usually between the ages of 25 and 34.
