Hips rollout extended across UK

The Home Information Packs (hips) rollout has been extended to encompass a further 12 locations across the UK, it has been declared by the Association of Home Information Pack Providers (Ahipp).

Ahead of their mandatory introduction to the housing market, new areas set to trial Hips are Bristol, Cardiff, Chelmsford, Coventry, Leicester, Liverpool, Manchester, Nottingham and Plymouth.

In addition, the M4 corridor region will also be targeted for the trial of the packs, with Reading, Basingstoke and Wokingham testing their impact.

Paul Broadhead, deputy director general for Ahipp, stated: "This extended roll-out will allow a phased implementation of packs, and ensure that industry is fully prepared and committed to deliver the full benefits to home buyers and sellers."

The idea behind trialling the packs incrementally, is that, according to Mr Broadhead, a detrimental "big bang implementation" can be avoided.

Legislation requires Hips to be handed out by estate agents to home owners from June 1st and they are designed to provide greater transparency and increased awareness of the house buying process.
