Study your winter sports insurance, says Post Office

Skiers jetting off to the slopes should make themselves aware of the intricacies of their winter sports insurance policy, according to Post Office.

Rising temperatures have resulted in some pistes having to be closed due to lack of snow but some insurance packages fail to give a pay out in this situation so consumers are urged to check before they embark on their trip.

Post Office Ski and Winter Sports Travel Insurance ensures that policyholders will not be ruing the lack of snow at the piste as a maximum of £300 will be paid out should another resort be sought due to the weather. This could be down to too little or too much snow.

Kevin McAdam, head of travel at the Post Office, commented: "So far, this ski season has been among the worst on record in Europe with some areas having little or no snowfall. This can mean limited time on the slopes, plus an increased risk of injury or damage to equipment due to poor conditions."

Policyholders must ensure that they receive written confirmation that the slopes were shut down and Post Office Ski and Winter Sports Travel Insurance can cover the individual for trips around the world for not just skiing but also other sports such as snowboarding and skiing off-piste.
