Lloyds TSB Insurance: Prepare for flooding

Homeowners across the country are being encouraged to make sure they take measures to negate the effects of expected floods in the coming days.

With some 29 flood warnings having been issued and 119 areas being on flood watch, the group has provided a new guide for homeowners to deal with such situations most effectively.

If a homeowner does experience flooding they are urged to make contact with their insurer as quickly as possible.

Other important pieces of information to remember is to refrain from throwing away any damaged items as these could be vital for the claims process.

Attaching receipts for damaged goods to claim forms will also be a good way of smoothing out the process.

For those people who have experienced significant damage to their home, finding out whether temporary accommodation is covered is important.

Phil Loney, managing director, Lloyds TSB Insurance, said: "The number of flood warnings in place is cause for concern, but with the right preparation and know-how, it is often possible to get things back to normal relative quickly, if your home is damaged."
