Halifax warns homeowners over cold snap

Homeowners are being advised to take precautions to negate the cold snap set to return to the UK over the weekend.

According to Vicky Emmott, senior underwriting manager at Halifax Home Insurance, a "sudden unseasonal drop in temperatures can wreak havoc on people's homes and gardens if they are unprepared for it".

Incidents which can arise from a sudden cold snap can include burst pipes, which could consequently cause damage to plaster ceilings, walls, kitchen units, electrical wiring and decoration.

Ms Emmott said that property owners could negate any possible damage by protecting plants and insulating plants.

Halifax Home Insurance advises that exposed water pipes are lagged, loft insulation is not placed beneath water tanks and to ensure that the tops and sides of water tanks are insulated.

Halifax Home Insurance offers a useful 24-hour emergency helpline for those homeowners encountering tricky situations.
