Barclaycard helps consumers support climate change 'battle'

Barclaycard has announced plans to unveil a new credit card designed for people with environmental concerns close to their heart.

Under the terms of 'Barclaycard Breathe', the group will donate 50 per cent of profits from the card to reducing carbon emissions around the world.

People who take advantage of the new Barclaycard will also have the opportunity to enjoy discounts on green products and services.

The green drive will be promoted within the group with the adoption of an eco-friendly attitude to account management.

The group's chief executive, Antony Jenkins, said that the Barclaycard would guarantee that a minimum of £1 million is directed towards environmental projects in the first year.

Mr Jenkins also said the card "makes it easy for people to do their bit in the fight against climate change by offering incentives to make being green easier and supporting projects around the world that help reduce carbon emissions".

As part of its five-point strategy towards tackling climate change, Barclays is committed to reducing carbon emissions, buying renewable energy and offsetting remaining carbon emissions.

It also hopes to offer products which help consumers tackle climate change and engage shareholders in debate about these topics.
