Sainsbury's Bank: Shop around to cut costs

Homeowners need to shop around to find the most competitive financial packages and ease the burden on their monthly outgoings.

Research carried out by Sainsbury's Bank indicates that the cost of running a home each year has increased by almost £1,200 since 2004-05, rising to £11,035 in the process.

With the group estimating that mortgage costs account for some 60 per cent of the cost of running a home, Robert O'May, home insurance manager at the group, said it was "all the more important for homeowners to shop around to make sure they are getting the very best deals available".

He added: "This is not only for their mortgages and utility supplies but also their home insurance."

Sainsbury's Bank home insurance could save consumers up to £124 off their monthly bill compared to packages offered by other providers.

As well as providing unlimited buildings cover, Sainsbury's Bank insurance packages possess a no-claims discount protection feature.

Customers will also receive a ten per cent discount for purchasing online and an additional five per cent when purchasing buildings and contents insurance.
