Long-term Nationwide mortgages 'set for withdrawal'

Nationwide has announced that it will be withdrawing its 25-year mortgage as of Thursday May 3rd.

Aimed at providing the certainty of fixed payments over a long-term period, the Nationwide mortgage enabled consumers to move their mortgage without penalty after ten years.

Many borrowers are believed to have taken advantage of the Nationwide mortgage deal, with the group's £50 million tranche of funding having now been sold out.

Matthew Carter, divisional director for mortgages at the group, said the Nationwide mortgages had proved to be popular and added that he hoped "to be able to re-launch the product soon, providing we are able to secure a competitive rate on the money markets".

He added: "Nationwide remains committed to offering long-term good value to its members and we are pleased our borrowers have been able to realise the benefits of mutuality as a result of this product."
