Leeds mortgage package for first-time buyers 'enhanced'

Leeds Building Society is making it easier for prospective homebuyers to get their foot on the property ladder following an enhancement of its lending criteria.

The Leeds 100 per cent mortgage products are set to be offered with applications from guarantors.

Karen Wint, head of marketing and PR at the group, said that the development of the package would enable more people to invest in bricks and mortar for the first time.

"Acting as a guarantor increases the amount their children can borrow, which is particularly important in many areas of the country where property prices are out of reach," she said, commenting upon the Leeds mortgage.

"Furthermore, parents are only guaranteeing the difference between the amount their children can borrow and the total loan," she added.

Ms Wint also said that the enhancement of the Leeds mortgage package would enable parents not to have to cash in savings, "giving them greater financial control and flexibility".
