Lloyds TSB Insurance: Bank Holiday DIY caution 'encouraged'

People who have been going DIY crazy over the Bank Holiday weekend have been encouraged to make sure they have taken out an adequate home insurance policy to counter the threat of any accidents.

Research carried out by Lloyds TSB Insurance estimated that there would be a 60 per cent rise in the number of calls being made to the group following the long weekend.

Insurance claims are regularly higher over the long weekends, with accidental damage claims during May 2006 having increased by 20 per cent.

With another Bank Holiday set to be enjoyed by Britons towards the end of the month, Phil Loney, managing director of Lloyds TSB Insurance, advised "anyone who's getting out a paintbrush, drill or stepladder to be extremely careful".

He added: "Unfortunately, sometimes accidents do happen and it's then that having the right insurance cover can prove invaluable."
